MARSHA MCCRAY RICKS

I am a Tuscumbia native and currently reside in Tuscumbia, Alabama. My educational background includes a B.S. degree in Mental Retardation; a M.A. degree in Mild Learning Handicaps, a Masters in Educational Leadership and an Ed.S in Education Administration – all from the University of North Alabama. I have a school psychometry certification from the University of Alabama Birmingham and am a certified School Psychometrist. I love pursuing knowledge that helps me become a better professional, and more importantly,

a better person.

My thirty-eight year work experience includes twenty-one years of teaching special education and at- risk students in Russellville City and Muscle Shoals City school systems and seventeen years as a central office administrator in Tuscumbia City Schools. As an administrator, my roles have included Career Technical Director, At-Risk Coordinator, Safe and Drug Free Coordinator, Safety Coordinator and Student Assessment Coordinator. I am currently the Director of Special Education and Section 504 for Tuscumbia City Schools.

I have served on the Children’s Policy Council, DHR Quality Assurance, and Colbert County Multi-Needs Team, including several years as chairman. I am also very active in my local church, where I help with outreach ministries, serve as an usher, and an administrative assistant.

At various times throughout my career I have been a tutor and mentor for teens and young adults, including students that participated in Northwest Shoals Community College’s Talent Search and Upward Bound programs. At-risk students and adults are my passion, and I am always looking for ways that I can contribute to helping them achieve their career and personal goals.

I have been married forty-three years to my husband, Leon, and we have two sons, Joel (who is deceased) and Benjamin. The absolute joys of my life, are my three grandchildren, Dajaevion, Zaikyra, and

Benjamin Joel.
